Description: Screening of The Least of My Brothers documentary, featuring a discussion with the film’s writer/director Matt Kordelski. The story of the desegregation of Vidor, Texas, and the investigation of the murder of the first African American man to move there.

 

Music of El Batallón de Los San Patricios

Description: Join us for an evening of music, food, and little-known history. Irish musician Brian Ralph is teaming up with the San Antonio Mexican and Irish consulates to celebrate El Batalion de Los San Patricios, a group of Irish immigrants who fought on both sides of the Mexican-American war of 1846-1848. Enjoy a catered dinner from The Cottage, an authentic Irish pub local to San Antonio.

 

Selena, Fotos y Recuerdos Art Show

Description: An art show featuring contest-winning student creative work, music, and Selena-inspired snacks in celebration of Selena Quintanilla. Also featuring never-before-seen original photos of the memorials outside Selena’s boutique in Alamo Heights the week of her passing in 1995, taken by former SAC student, History buff, and former Witte Museum docent Joanne Gallaway Wells. 

 

Trivia Box Lunch & Competition

Description: Join us for a fun-filled lunch with a twist—where things aren’t always what they seem! Grab a delicious, boxed lunch from Scratch Kitchen, form up and join (or bring your own) team, and put your knowledge to the test in our Trivia Challenge. Prizes for top teams! Tasty lunch provided!  Fun surprises along the way!

 

Seeing the Unseen: Arab-American Heritage Month Read-A-Thon

Date: Thursday, May 1
Time: 8 a.m. - noon
Location: Library 4th floor
Description: A round-robin style communal celebration of Arab-American literature where participants take turns reading aloud. Classes all over campus are invited, and students, faculty, and staff can bring/choose from their own favorites or select from readings that will be in the space already. Join us in celebrating literature and sharing stories with the joy of shared reading, featuring books, poems, short stories, drama… any text from centuries of Arab-American literature! This event is drop-in friendly and attendees can stay for as long as they are able.
