AlamoPROMISE Transforms Julianna Lujan’s Dreams into Reality
February 28, 2025
Julianna Lujan has big dreams of opening her own business one day so that she can make a difference in people’s lives. Growing up, she was inspired by her father’s hard work and dedication to his career. Seeing first-hand the way that he was able to provide a positive impact in people’s lives through his work motivated her to do the same.
Her path to the Alamo Colleges District (ACD) began in high school when she learned about AlamoPROMISE, a last-dollar scholarship that covers the cost of tuition and fees for eligible students. When she discovered that there was an opportunity to attend college tuition-free, she felt that her dreams had come true.
“Alamo Colleges has removed the barrier of financial stress. I am beyond blessed to be able to receive higher education without having any financial burden,” says Julianna.
She is currently in her fourth semester at St. Philip’s College (SPC) where she studies Business Administration and maintains an impressive 4.0 GPA. Julianna is dedicated to her studies and attributes her academic success to the support provided on campus.
“What I most value about my experience at Alamo Colleges would be the resources available. I never shy away from asking questions because the faculty at St. Philip’s are very helpful because they really want each student to succeed. I can proudly say that St. Philip’s College puts students first,” said Julianna.
The sense of community she found at SPC inspired her to give back by becoming a Peer Mentor. She understands what it is like to face challenges and lose motivation, so her goal is to help fellow students thrive in their college journey by providing direction and support.
“Each day I learn something new, meet new people and get to provide support towards students. These experiences have taught me to show up every day and work harder than the day before because every day is a new opportunity for me to improve myself,” says Julianna.
Her hard work and dedication are paying off. In February 2025, Julianna was recognized at the ACD Board of Trustee’s meeting as the AlamoPROMISE Student of Month. When accepting her award, she expressed gratitude towards the Alamo Colleges and the support they provided for her.
“Your generosity provides financial relief but also reinforces my determination to achieve my educational and career aspirations without the weight of financial stress. Thank you, Alamo Colleges, for believing in me, investing in my future, and giving me the confidence to pursue my dreams,” said Julianna.
After graduating from St. Philip’s College, Julianna intends to continue her education and transfer to a university.
