Transient Dismissal

Northwest Vista College is dedicated to helping students and supporting them in their academic achievement. Students who are approved by their home institution to attend a community college for one semester in order to improve GPA or grade replacements may utilize the transient dismissal process approved by the Colleges of the Alamo Colleges District as of summer 2021.

In order to be eligible, students must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be able to demonstrate their ability to return to their home institution the following semester
  • Have approval to attend Northwest Vista College from their home institution advisor
  • Have the Transient Dismissal Petition form completed by their home institution advisor
  • Have a current application on file at Northwest Vista College

Procedure: Students who have been advised to attend NVC in order to meet the recommendations listed above may request a Transient Exception for Academic Dismissal Petition Form by contacting the Academic Standards team at nvc-ast@alamo.edu. They will need to provide the form to their home institution advisor and return it with the following items filled in:

  • Student Information
  • Course Selection
  • Home Institution Advisor Information
  • Advisor Signature
  • Factors for Dismissal
  • Student verification of understanding (initial section)
  • Student Signature

If you are unable to obtain documentation from your home institution advisor that verifies you are able to continue enrollment at their institution the following semester, you will follow the Academic Dismissal process as a transfer student.
